Bring On The Madness! - 2017 NCAA Tournament Preview

March 14, 2017

Let the madness begin! It's time to break out the brackets and pretend we know what we are talking about.  Luckily our guest knows a thing or two about college basketball.  Brendan McDaniels play by play man for Time Warner Sports and host of Orange Overtime joins us for our annual Bracketology episode.

We'll break down all four regions with Brendan and get his thoughts on Cinderellas, Blue Bloods, Chalk vs. Upsets, and we'll even play "Guess The Nickname". Plus...

  • Which Michigan team can go farther this year?
  • Region likely to see the most chaos
  • Will the 7-10 games be the new 5-12 this year?
  • Can a team from the PAC 12 finally make the Final Four?
  • and the best player in the tournament not from one of the top seeds

Conference Tourney Prep - Aaron Torres Fox Sports

March 7, 2017

The madness is upon us so it's time to take stock of the college basketball world.  We had a great chat with Aaron Torres from Fox Sports as we get ready for the big dance.

  • The Power 6 team that needs their conference tourney the most
  • The most important conference in terms of seeding and bubble bursting
  • Is it ok for top teams to lose early in their tourneys to rest up for the big dance?
  • Is this a down year for mid majors and potential Cinderellas?
  • Have we reached critical mass with the one and dones in college basketball?
  • Is Illinois a Top 15 job in the country (we had some fun debating this one)

Plus I'll tell you why Jets fans are going to be suffering this year but not much past it.  I'll share my thoughts on the combine and how it can be changed.

And we'll discuss Spin's 95 best alt songs of 1995 and Deadspin's Best Sounds In Sports.

$election $unday Reactions

March 15, 2016

No that isn't a typo. $election $unday proved once again with the NCAA the old adage of "follow the money" still applies. And you can bet your sweet butts I'm going on a rant about this one.

We're also joined by Kami Mattioli from the Sporting News who wrote a great piece on what the actions of the selection committee means to the mid-major schools like Monmouth and St. Bonaventure.

Buckle up this one is going to be a bumpy ride!

It's another packed show, Reid Forgrave from gives us our March Madness cram session and Dan Shonka from helps us recap the NFL Combine.

-The most surprising team this season
-The teams under the most pressure entering their conference tourneys
-and if Grayson Allen went to Gonzaga instead of Duke would he still be a villain?

Then Dan recaps the Combine and looks ahead to the Draft...

-Did any of the "red flag" guys help their draft stock at the combine?
-Biggest position of depth at this years draft
-Will Carson Wentz playing in the FCS hurt his draft stock?
-and what makes Jalen Ramsey so good?

Episode 58: Masters Preview with Ryan Ballengee from Yahoo Sports

April 8, 2015

The Dukies proved they had the most depth in the nation by beating a Wisconsin team that ran out of gas in the NCAA Championship game.  We'll look back at final game and why this might have been Coach K's most rewarding of his five championships.

Plus it's Masters week!  Our old friend Ryan Ballengee from Yahoo Sports joins us to talk Augusta:
-Who is this new Tiger Woods?
-Is Rory still the favorite?
-And why is Bubba Watson a "childish 36 year old man" and is that a good thing?

Episode 57: Sweet 16 Preview

March 23, 2015

How's your brackets?  Did you mistakenly think this year's Villanova team was different?  Did you have too much faith in the A10?  Brendan McDaniels and I sure did (after all we are A10 grads).  Brendan joins us to take a look back at the glorious first weekend of the NCAA Tournament and a look ahead to the Sweet 16.

Episode 10: A series of Good Byes

March 31, 2014

In this episode we say a series of "Good Byes".  Starting off with Chelsea Handler and Dan Marino.  Then it's the debut of my buddy Conaghan who joins me to talk How I Met Your Mother, Yankee baseball, why he's looking for a new NFL team and how many weekends we could do in college right now.  I promise we recorded this before the HIMYM finale!  But...nailed it!

Episode 8: Round 1 Recap

March 22, 2014

He's back!  We had such a great time talking basketball with Brendan McDaniels we've brought him back to recap round 1 of the tourney.  We talk cranky old coaches, which lower seed has a legit shot and why college SIDs have such an easy job.

Episode 7: March Madness

March 17, 2014

It's the most wonderful time of the year!  No not Christmas, March Madness!  In this episode I take a quick review of the brackets, share my thoughts on the region of death, why this is a coaches tournament and even throw in a cheap plug.

Episode 5: Let the Madness Begin!

March 7, 2014

It's March Madness time so I brought in old friend, college basketball play by play man, and Mark Schmidt apologist Brendan McDaniels to talk college hoops, NBA and Bills.  We had such a great time I've broken it up into two segments.  In part 1 we talk how to fix the NCAA regular season, is this the year for Cinderella, and even Pearl Washington gets a mention.
